YOU’RE IN COMMAND BOAT RESPONSIBLY

August 9th, 2010 Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

You’re in command

1 Watch your wake.Operating at half speed usually leaves a large wake.Check to see if you are rocking other boats at docks. To close to shore will cause erosion. You’re wake could throw someone overboard.

2.  Stay 200 feet offshore when possible. A NO WAKE ZONE exists between Paneks Point and Coon Island and Fishermans Island and the Island to the west of it..The game warden has stopped many boats for this violating this law. ( We have a new Maine State Warden in this district)

3. One boat capsized this week. The operator was assisted and brought to shore. Lucky some one saw him waving his tee shirt.

4. Try to make noise away from populated shorelines. Use the large part of the lake to have your fun.

5. Life Jackets and throw cushions must be ready to use quickly. It could save a life.

Stocking ofAlwives at Togus Pond. May 16th 2010

May 6th, 2010 Posted in LAKE INFO | No Comments »

STOCKING OF ALWIVES is complete for 2010. The final count is 9600, just short of the 10,000 that was planned. A DMR representative will be at the meeting Friday night June 25th.

STOCKING OF ALWIVES IN TOGUS POND STARTS TODAY. MAY 16th 2010

A group of interested neighbors watch the first 1300 Alwives  being stocked in Togus Pond. The process started four years ago with meetings and research. WLA then had to ask to be considered for this program. We hope alwives will over time reduce the growth of alge in the pond. This is a multi year program with returns hopefully showing up in four years.

May 26th 2010  DMR introduced 3000 more alwives into Togus Pond. The total so far now stands at 4300.

May 6 2010

Alwives are pooling at the Webber Pond Dam. Harvesting and runs will happen for the next two weeks or more. depends on the weather. Best time to watch is sunny days when the sun is high in the sky. Lots of work on the fish ladder and boat landing has made a great improvement.

The Damariscotta Mills Alwive site is greatly improved with construction of a natural rock pool being worked on. This is a many year project that is very impressive.

Tell your friend and chek it out.

319 GRANT FALL 2009 REPORT

September 29th, 2009 Posted in LAKE INFO, Uncategorized | No Comments »

Sept 2009  Report on progress of 319 grants to road assn. and private property owners. By Patt Williams

The 319 Grant is coming to a close.  The collaboration with the City of Augusta has worked and worked well.  We have enjoyed working with Mr. Jerry Dostie who is the City’s representative to our Technical Committee and with both Gerard Roy and Dan Nichols who have handled administrative functions for the City.  The result has been a smoothly operating project that has major road projects on The Albee, Hayes Landing, Tasker, Woodard, Young Roads; at the WLA Landing and at four homeowner sites.  We have nearly fully utilized the project’s funds in both the grant’s project’s and technical assistance lines.  We have come to the point where we have more applicancations than we have funds available and thus, no more application are being requested.  This project has involved the time and energy of a number of WLA members and Friends.  We need to thank Mr. John Pucciarelli, Chair of the Technical Committee (T.C.), Mr. Dennis Curtis of the T.C., Dr. Melissa Laser of the T.C., Cindy Eurich of the WLA Landing Committee, all WLA members who spent lots of time on this project.  We also need to recognize Mr. Josh Platt of the Kennebec County Soil and Water Conservation District (KCSWCD) who worked long and hard to make these projects into the successes that they are.  A special thanks to the KCSWCD for agreeing to provide whatever services necessary, beyond those funded in the grant, as in-kind contributions to assure the success of the project as a whole.
