President’s Message
January 1st, 2007 Posted in UncategorizedFellow Members of the WLA;
As you are reading this you know that your Lake Association has taken big step towards improving our communications. The new WLA home page will soon become a clearinghouse for information about issues of interest to our members. Dennis Curtis and Dick Harvey volunteered to manage the project and, as I have come to expect when either to those members are involved, did a great job. Dean Smiley also got involved and one of the nice features of the web site is the button to access his pond webcam. The web site was actually built by Aaron Smiley and he did a fine job. You will note that the site has a nice clean look, that navigating around the page and links is easy and very fast. I want to take this opportunity to thank Dennis, Dick, Dean and Aaron for the hard work they’ve done for us and the great product they have produced.
You’ll also see a winter scene as the banner for the site, which will change seasonally. As we add content to the site one of the new buttons will be a spot for members to post their own pictures of life on the pond and stream; if you leave some pictures there don’t be surprised if you see one of them as one of the changing banner pictures someday. We’ll be adding documents from the archives of the WLA, there will be a calendar of events, both specific to the WLA and of general interest to nature lovers. We’ll link to relevant community and governmental organizations (you’ll be able to write your City Counselor or Legislator using these links) and we’ll post governmental regulations relevant to us (such as how to apply for a permit by rule through the DEP). We’ll be posting all the past newsletters and copies of the minutes of WLA meetings as well.
As you know, we, through the City, are the recipient of a 319 grant that will concentrate on reducing non-point pollution from the roads around the pond. We will post all the news on that project here at the web site. Your Road Association will be able to download any forms needed to apply for a portion of these funds to work on your road, and individual landowners will be able to apply for funding to reduce erosion and run off, or plant buffer zones here as well.
Want to rent or sell property on the pond? Sell a boat or advertise a yard sale? We’ll be including a “Classified” button as well. Where else can a member get no cost advertising? The web page is designed to be a changing and evolving site. If you have ideas for additions or improvements, post a message to the to one of us listed at the “Contact Us” button.
I hope to see you all at the next meeting and I hope you will enjoy the new web page as much as I do.
Patten Williams
President
